~about posting daily outfits~

I believe that nearly every lolita knows the livejournal  community Daily Lolita. For those who don't know it yet:

In the daily lolita community every livejournal user is able to post photos of her/his outfits an get comments and con-crit on it. Especially for lolita beginners I thin kthis community is very helpful because you can watch outfits from the whole world and get some inspirations.
Most postings are tagged with the lolitastyles so you can search for specific substyles.

If you are interested you can find my postings here.

Another community for more extravagant outfits is Daily Alamode where you can "show off your unconventional use of lolita clothing!"
I haven't posted there yet but I love searching the great ideas!

~about a film that has to be watched

One of my favourite films is the 2007 released "Stardust" after the book of Neil Gaiman.
I don't want to tell you the whole story (if you are interested, check out wikipedia) just this little bit: young Tristan Thorn wants to bring his beloved a fallen star out of the magical kingdom Stormhold. You can image how surprised he is when he finds out that this star is actually a women.

But why of all things should I present you this film in my steampunk and lolita blog? Because of the sky pirates and their airship:

With this beauty the pirates fly catchin lightnings under the command of Captain Shakespeare.

Those skypirates are imho one of the best examples of this steampunk class and you should definitely watch ths film, not least because of the gorgeous panorama shots.

~about what to wear underneath~

If a Lolita is asked, what she wears underneath, in the majority of cases the answer will be: Bloomers! In all colours and shapes. Bloomers keeps you warm, protect your legs from itchy petticoats and you don't have to be that careful when sitting down. So, they are THE piece of clothing to wear underneath your skirts.
Actually at this point I wanted to show you a self-made tutorial for Bloomers. I've already finished the drawings for it, BUT: Many people have done that before me and in my opinion they've done it a hundred times better than me. So here are the three best links:

homegrownrose
batty- chan
kowaikoneko

Aufgepasst, hier kommen meine Alternativen:

But what do you do, if you don't like Bloomers at all? For means of comfort or just for the design?
Attention please: Here are my alternatives:

Before I sewed my first Bloomers, I wore my old Gardespitzenhöschen for about a year. The big advantage of them is that they give your skirts a little extra poof because of the ruffles and because they fit tighter than bloomers they protect your tights (if you wear some^^) before slipping down.

The advantages of normal hotpants are very similiar, only they don't poof (lack of ruffles^^) but they are mostly more cofortable to wear directly on the skin.

The third (and my last) alternative are boxershorts. The fit not that tightly and are therefore more comfortable in the summer and they resemble the bloomers the most. Aside from that there are various colours and shapes to buy. And with some few steps you can make also real bloomers from them: Just sew an elastic into the legs and finished. All right, you can also add some lace and stuff^^

Well, you see: bloomers are not obligatory, but if you put some fun and afford in sewing you can easily make your own bloomers. Whether you sew complete bloomers with one of the tutorials above or just alter some boxershorts^^

~about my newest creation~

Counting Numbers JSK

When I was at IKEA the last time I found this wonderful fabric for 2,50€/m and I just had to sew something out of it. On this fabric are written numbers, but I liked the font and on the finished JSK you can't read what's on it anyway^^
But that's enough for now, here comes my finished dress:

The picture was taken on our last Chateau Chocolat - our local Lolita meet-up - in Leverkusen. I hope you like the picture and the JSK.

~about starting a blog~

Willkommen in meinem frischgeschlüpften Blog!

~Ruffles and Steam~

Also seid gespannt, was in den nächsten Tagen folgen wird!

Welcome to my brand-new Blog!
I've been a silent blog follower for a year now and since I wrote an article for the clockworker about the ElfFantasyFairs 2010 in Arcen I was infected with the will to write! After some careful considerations and researches, among others with the very helpful entry from F*** Yeah Lolita about starting a (lolita) blog, I had a flash of inspiration today during working and the name was born:

~Ruffles and Steam~

Here I want to write about my two passions: Lolita and Steampunk! Since those two styles are quite international I resolved to write in English and German.
So stay curious what will follow in the next few days! (And cross your fingers that I will get along with the bilingual posting!)
